Boars must be 10 months or older more, in order to assure a fairly pheromone producction and a good libido. They should be not much heavy to avoid injuries in sows. It is advisable to vasectomize them. Also it is suitable to have several boars because some sows show preferences to a particular boar. In case of weaning sows in big pens, it is necessary to use 2 or 3 boars at the same time, and they must have been bred together in order to avoid troubles between males.

Technician who makes heat detection must know the physiology of the process to allow the correct development of the stimulus, giving to the boar enough time to provoke a clear response in the sow. Patience and calmness are necessary, especially with gilts that show heat with more difficulties.
