Once ejaculated semen begins to undergo a series of degenerative processes which lead to loss of motility, deterioration of the acrosome and decondensation of chromatin.

Recently ejaculated sperm cells show high motility levels thank to the action of mithocondria at the middle piece, where the necessary energy is obtained from compounds such as glucose, fructose and pyruvic acid via reactions of glycolisis and oxidative phosphorylation. As immediate consequences, the energy reservoirs of the sperm cell are drastically shortened and new compounds come up, as lactic acid, that may accumulate and lower ph level, causing a further decrease of motility levels.

To avoid these two main problems, all our extenders contain:

An adequate supply of the highest quality sugars that  are easily assimilated by sperm cells and allow them to maintain high levels of motility, even at the moment of insemination.

Buffers with the ability of restraining pH levels to the physiological range of sperm cells
