Embryo Transfer
The possibility to assure the reproduction of the sow with a high genetic value is got by using this technique. Using an hormonal treatment we get in only one estrous cycle a huge amount of eggs that are fertilized by artificial insemination. Later on, the embryos are picked up and transferred to receptive sows with a lower genetic value.
Boar Semen
As well as in the sow, the male semen preservation is really quite important. This is got by freezing the semen for its preservation throughout long periods of time. The boar sperm is really very sensitive to cold temperatures, so in order to get good results, there are different aspects that should be taken into consideration, specially the protection against fast temperatures changes. Actually boar semen can be frozen and inseminated giving fertility results similar to that obtained with semen preserved at 15ºC. However this technique has get a high economic value and for this reason it is used only in animals of high genetic value.
