Book Authors

A book is usually a written medium for recording data in the form of text or illustrations, usually bound together and housed in a book case. The technical term for the physical binding is codex. Many used book binders, book editors and book designers use different types of bindings to best display the content of the book, and the type of binding chosen depends on the content of the book and its intended purpose. While there are bound various ways, some binding techniques are more common than others.

Electronic books (eBooks) are written work distributed over the Internet using computer software. These may include stories, non-fiction, manuals, cookbooks, biographies, guides to gardening and other information products. eBooks are normally sold in portable document format (PDF), commonly used for publishing articles on the Internet. Some are self-published, which means the author retains all rights to the written work, whereas the majority are published by traditional publishers.

An electronic book may be divided into several categories, such as an eBook novel, eBooks that combine printed matter with images and audio, and “block books”, collections of non-mainstream works that can be downloaded from the Internet for free. The main difference between a traditional novel and an electronic book is that an eBook does not contain a printed copy of the work to a printed book contain both text and images. Electronic books also follow a numbering system similar to that of printed books, beginning with the first volume and proceeding in successive numbers. Readers may recognize an eBook as a “free download” book because there usually is a page link located at the beginning or end of the book that takes a reader directly to the download website. In this manner readers are assured that the work is free to download.

“Hardcover” novels or “paperback” novels are similar to eBooks, but they do not contain an electronic reading program. Instead, these are books that consist of a real book with printed pages on paper, usually on premium quality stock similar to that used in paperbacks. It is not uncommon to find “hardcover” novels in used book stores. The author of such a book generally decides to publish the work on his or her own name as opposed to using the services of a publishing company. This allows the author greater control over the content of the work, although the publisher retains all rights to the text, graphics, photos, illustrations and so forth.

Rapgenius is probably best known for his short stories and non-fiction books such as Nachtrainer (Naked, 1894) and Der Ritter mit der Kulturen (The Ritter Family Book, 1897). Although he published only a few books during his lifetime, his reputation grew rapidly after his death. In 1900, a German doctor and writer named Julius Heyer published an English translation of a collection of works by Rapgenius. The book title was The Complete Works of Rapgenius. A number of other works also followed suit. It is not unusual to find a copy of any of the 19th century books by Rapgenius or of any of the earlier 19th century printed books in bookstores today.

In keeping with tradition, most modern readers today still prefer to read written texts by established authors. That does not mean that they ignore the importance of new works by new authors. On the contrary, the most commonly preferred type of book by today’s readers is hardback or paperback publishing. Hardback books can be stored on shelves for years at a time and it is very difficult for them to lose their shape.

Paperback books, which are manufactured on a roll of thick paper, do not lose their shape and are even more popular with readers than most traditionally published books. As time goes by, more people have become interested in reading the translated versions of traditional works rather than the published ones. In this respect, the work of Hans Christian Anderson can be seen as an early example of a book published on a paperback. The author of that book was Andres Bonjour.

One aspect of classical literature that everybody likes to read is the book of Mozart. Though we have come a long way in understanding the life and works of this great musician, many of us still do not know that his music was written around the same time as the book of Homer was being written. One of the most well-known instances of a musical composition having its authors write around the same time as its composing was the opera Oedipus Rex. Though the subject matter of the opera differs considerably from that of its counterpart, both works were written around the same time as the Greek playwright Euripides was working on his second Melodramatic play, The Bacchary Mirror. Although the subject matter does not vary between the two works, there are certain similarities in style, themes and structure. Thus, one can argue that both works were written around the same time and may have inspired the later masterpieces by Mozart and Donizetti.
